In the world of artificial intelligence, ChatGPT and Google Bard are two of the most popular and advanced large language models. Both models can generate text, translate languages, craft various types of creative content, and answer questions informatively. But which AI chatbot is better at Java coding? Can they match the skills of human developers? And how do their results differ?
To find out, I decided to put ChatGPT and Google Bard to the test. I gave them a simple coding task that is commonly used as a code assignment for Java developers.
A brief note
ChatGPT is built on data up until September 2021, making it unaware of advancements in Java 17 and beyond. A slight disadvantage, you might say. Conversely, while Google Bard remains somewhat opaque about its dataset, it does hint at being updated around 2022 with ongoing learning. Surprisingly, it’s currently free! With this in mind, I leaned towards expecting more from Bard, even though I use ChatGPT a lot in my daily tasks.
